‘suburban mysticism’ (n.) :

the visual language of hidden myths within ordinary American life.

There is something spiritual about memories: the way they blur fact and fiction, turn real into myth.

Sean Le’s work lives in this space, where nostalgia becomes both sacred and suspicious. Drawing on his Southern California suburban identity and the weight of the American Dream, he refracts Americana’s symbols: oil rigs, horses, uniforms, suburban ideals, through a lens of beauty and critique.

Tying together structural rigor from his architectural studies and fascination with visual symbols, Le’s practice moves fluidly across disciplines. Stars are symbols of aspiration and destruction; oil rigs sit within high school classrooms; clergy capes are embellished with latex and chains. In this oscillation between irony and sincerity, Le feels, questions, researches, designs and creates pieces of critique, sentiment and seduction.
